news in detail
Biloxi, MS - As Pastor Benjamin Faircloth drove toward the gulf coast he was uncertain of his exact destination. He knew he needed to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, so he headed to Biloxi, MS.
As Faircloth drove through Alabama he called LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry in South Bend, IN to inquire if the Indiana relief ministry could send him food and water. Faircloth, a Feed the Hungry supporter, was assured goods were already on the way, and when he reached the area he should call and confirm a delivery address.
The destruction Faircloth observed in Biloxi was overwhelming. Driving to the church he hoped to help, Pastor Faircloth came across a young woman in tears on the side of the road. The pastor stopped to comfort the lady. After praying with the woman they began to discuss the situation in Biloxi.
Faircloth then discovered that the Coast Community Church was damaged, but Saint Mary’s Catholic Church across the street was in fairly good condition. Pastor Faircloth and Father Dominic Fulman quickly forged an alliance to begin feeding the people of Biloxi.
With St. Mary’s serving as a distribution center, Feed the Hungry sent several truckloads of ready-to-eat meals, soup, water and shelf stable milk.
Father Dominic and Saint Mary’s appreciate Pastor Faircloth’s ministry as he lives out the vision of Feed the Hungry to feed body, soul and spirit.
On Monday Sept 12 Father Dominic was pleased to introduce Pastor Faircloth to Bishop Thomas Rosi of Biloxi, Cardinal Thomas McCarrick of Washington and Papal Envoy Archbishop Paul Josef Cordes. Archbishop Cordes, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, the Vatican’s charity organization, thanked Pastor Faircloth and Feed the Hungry for their efforts on behalf of Katrina victims.
Feed the Hungry will send more supplies to Saint Mary’s in Biloxi.
