Since the appeal letter was sent out last month, more requests for aid have come in. The need is so widespread because the hunger in much of Africa is overwhelming.
And of all the pleas for help from Africa and indeed from around the world, from places you’ve never heard of, there is one common thread . . . one word they always use,“please.”
They are hoping, they are praying, they are crying out for help.

10/5/06 - Four Nation Appeal - Launched
FTH has received a donation of five containers of dehydrated soup-mix. The donor has requested it be sent to Africa, and we have found five suitable partners in four countries.
This soup-mix is the ingenious combination of rice, high-protein soy, vegetables, vitamins, and minerals packaged in small, durable pouches. This food does more than just keep a child alive; it also improves health and growth.
The five containers hold 1.375 million meals and because the food has been generously donated to FTH, we just need to pay for the shipping cost – which means each meal is only going to cost an incredible SIX CENTS each!
Malawi - The poorest of the poor
- Population: 10+ million
- Gross domestic product per capita USD$569 (“191st richest” nation on earth)
- AIDS toll staggering; thousands of orphans, sometimes surviving in villages populated by as many as 200 orphans and no adults
- Semi-annual crop reduced to annual in both of past two years
- Garden crops in short supply
- Maize crop sickly

Mozambique - Life in the garbage dumps
- Population 19+ million
- Long among the poorest countries of the world
- 1.3 million living with HIV by UNICEF estimates

- Distributing food in trash dumps populated by children and adults, in AIDS hospitals, and to needy Christians
- Rescuing children from the garbage heaps and placing them in Christian orphanages
- Sharing food at pastors’ training and evangelistic outreaches

Swaziland - Slipping toward extinction
- Population 1.15+ million
- HIV infection rate 40%, the highest in Africa
- Child-led homes approaching 20%
- U.N. says this will be the first nation to become extinct due to HIV/AIDS (by 2050)
- One-third of all children chronically malnourished
- 10,000 new orphans every year

Uganda - Scarred for life
- Population 24.6+ million
- Gross domestic product per capita $245

- Ongoing violence makes travel dangerous
