Christmas 2007 Appeal

Their parents have died;
they can’t care for themselves;
they rely on you to survive...and know Jesus.

“They have nothing here. Nothing!”

Dear Friend,

When I heard this report from one of our staff members who recently visited seven
orphanages in Liberia that had asked for help, his words cut deep to the heart. The
urgency in his voice was sobering.

His response also reminded me how grateful I am for friends like you who so readily provide hope for hungry souls!

Your gifts of support bring joy and reassurance to so many discouraged children ...
young boys like Andrew, who is just shy of ten years old. Andrew’s father was killed by Liberian rebels -- his mom died after hearing that her husband had been shot.

You also help sustain babies like Rejoice who never met her parents ... and they’ve
never met her. Her father died before she was born; her mom didn’t make it through childbirth.

Because they have nobody to care for them, children like Andrew and Rejoice are
taken to local orphanages, cradled under the compassion of the church.
But with a non-existent economy and such limited resources, the churches in Liberia don’t have enough to properly care for each child.

Just Enough Is Not Enough

A small portion of rice in the morning. Barely a cup of rice in the early evening.
Enough to keep life in their bodies ... but only just.

With the basics of life almost impossible to come by, you can imagine what a
Christmas celebration is like in a Liberian orphanage. Decorated trees, presents, and Christmas cookies are beyond their wildest dreams. Their Christmas dinner will be another scant cup of rice.

Those lucky enough to have a bed share it with three other children. Others sleep on mounds of clay just to elevate themselves from the ground where ants and other insects lurk.

They won’t wake up to a stocking full of goodies because they don’t have a
fireplace ... or stockings. And so the churches humbly request help from you and me.

You Can Give Them Their Lives

And we believe God is leading us towards feeding 25,000 precious children
throughout the world in Jesus’ Name by the end of 2008!

But we absolutely need your ongoing support to make a difference in each of these
children’s lives.

Send a gift to Feed The Hungry today, and we’ll send containers of nourishing food
and hygiene supplies to nurture children back to good health. The soy-fortified rice
meals and children’s multi-vitamins go a long way to improve the nutritional wellbeing of babies like Rejoice and growing kids like Andrew.

It Costs So Little To Give Life To A Child.

You can feed a child for a month ... for $5.40!
For just $64.80, you can feed a vulnerable child for all of 2008!
Multiply that by 10,000 children, and we need at least $50,400 every month next
year.

As you know, this is more than hitting a “goal,” it’s about saving the lives of innocent children who rely on the kindness of others to have something to eat. And by working together, we can meet the need next year!

Jesus Christ with these helpless boys and girls ... and that means everything.
As you read, Andrew and Rejoice lost both of their parents. I don’t know how to even grasp what that must feel like. But what I absolutely know is that God loves Andrew and Rejoice like a father. He wants to hold them, teach them, care for them, and show them that His Son, Jesus, came to earth to give them “life to the full” (John 10:10)!

This Christmas, if we’ll focus on the true meaning and Gift of Christmas, we can bring Andrew and Rejoice into the abundance of God’s love!

ask God how He would have you participate in our Every Child Every Day program in the coming year.

There are many mouths to feed and hearts to fill with Jesus’ love, but when God’s
people work together, we can do it. And children like Andrew and Rejoice will be
fed... body, soul, and spirit.
