5/2/09 - Let your light shine in the tragic darkness of need
In this month of prayer, please let me ask you to add a crucial prayer need to your list -- for suffering people in Haiti.
In that small island nation, the poorest in our hemisphere (with 80% living on less than $2 a day), people are dealing with the agony of hunger, disease, and death. Sorrow beyond our imagination.
Last year we had the privilege of saving lives there, and easing the suffering for many thousands of children and adults. But the food we sent has run out.
I’m asking that you not only pray for the people of Haiti, but also give a generous gift of any amount to help us rush life-saving food to them.
They are in terrible pain. Tragedy has followed tragedy: massive hurricanes and flooding raging across the Caribbean have left 800 people dead and thousands devastated, their homes and villages destroyed... and starvation at the door.
Susie Krabacher of Mercy & Sharing ministry, our partners in Haiti, says they are living in the worst conditions she’s seen in 14 years. Her group is struggling to keep 4,600 people alive, mostly women and children.
These people desperately need our help. So I am pleading with you today, on their behalf, for prayer, and for a generous gift of compassion.
Please consider giving whatever amount the Lord lays on your heart -- but do it today. Answer the call now, so that not one more will die a cruel death.
We must hurry. Susie has held elderly people in her arms who are already so thin, she can feel their heart beating through their ribcage.
With your help today, we will ship 320 tons of food, supplies, and Bibles in 16 massive shipping containers to the nation of Haiti.
