While the Irrawaddy Delta continues to face critical needs of food and water - disaster relief operations throughout the provinces of Yangon are switching from emergency phase to phase two reconstruction.
Phase two relief operations have now began in the 17 provinces of Yangon, some 2-3 hours outside the main city. Our relief partners have identified at 250 families who have lost their homes and need to quickly replace them. FTH has released funds to build the first 80 homes, and 31 homes are already complete.
FTH is appealing to our partners and friends to prayerfully consider supporting this new phase of reconstruction to provide homes for the remaining 170 families from the membership of the 32 church plants throughout Myanmar.
Supply and Demand market dynamics and some opportunistic merchants have pushed prices above initial estimates, some construction supplies have literally doubled in price!
Many survivors are huddled together in public schools, despite the fact that the schools often did not even have roofs. And with Government authorities announcing that school will resume on schedule as a show of returning to normalcy, this will force many displaced families out into the open once again.

Dr. Bill Gresier MD oversees material support to 185 orphanages throughout Myanmar, caring for over 7000 children. We became aware of Dr. Bill and the his ministry through a chance meeting with Stefan radelich while in Myanmar earlier in the month.
He identified 14 areas that would need an orphanage such as the one pictured above. With conservative estimates of the death toll sitting at over 130,000 people - the reality there is a flood of children who have been orphaned in the wake of the Cyclone Nargis.
Dr. Gresier shares this story at his website...
Children always are very vulnerable during disasters often it is only the strong ones who have a chance to survive. However, there also are stories about children being saved in unusual ways.
In one place, a baby was found in some cloths that were tied high up in a tree. It is amazing how this child was safe there despite of the severe rain and the strong wind. His mother has not been found yet. May be she made a desperate attempt to keep her child alive before she died. Most likely no one will ever find out about her last moments...
To build from scratch to the finished home as picture above, would only cost $15,000. This includes all labour and construction materials including concrete, timber, roofing and windows. Each orphanage will house 20-30 children.
Individual donations for reconstruction efforts will be prioritised for homes of church families first, but if your church, business or social group would like to sponsor the entire cost building an orphanage please contact the office for more information.
We urgently need your best gift to help his nation recover from this devastating cataclysm.
