Dear Friend,
You’ve seen the graphic images on TV and the internet. Earthquake survivors in Haiti are suffering beyond imagination. From shacks to the Presidential Palace, Port-au-Price was leveled by the strongest earthquake the country has seen in 200 years.Feed The Hungry responded immediately, purchasing and distributing emergency relief supplies to earthquake survivors in Port au Prince and Carrefour through Haitian churches and ministry partners. Over 40,000 meals have been served; more than 44 tons of drinking water has been distributed; and the work is continuing.
Seven sea containers carrying over 110 tons of food, medical supplies, blankets, and waterproof tarps are in transit. Every $30
will send an additional 80kg of supplies; $100 will send 272kg; $318 will send ONE TON of additional supplies to Haiti.
Thousands have seen God’s love come through in the midst of catastrophe. But thousands still have to be reached. If you’ve already given to help Haitian survivors, please dig deep and help continue providing food, water, and relief supplies in Jesus’ name. Whatever you do right now will make an eternal difference in the lives of men, women, and children struggling to live another day.
For the hungry,
Pete SumrallAs at January 27 the Government reported an estimated 112,392 fatalities while the injured number 196,501.

February 15th is the birthday of our ministry’s founder, Dr. Lester Sumrall. To celebrate this day we have several traditions during the month of February - a month dedicated to prayer for our partners.
For many years, we have invited our friends to send in their specific prayer requests for our staff to pray over them on this special day.
We would like to invite you to participate.

On Friday 22nd January the Haitian Government officially declared the search and rescue phase of disaster relief finished. Dramatically one last survivor was rescued after being trapped for 11 days surviving by eating cookies, cola and anything else he could find. In that time 132 lives were saved by international rescue teams.
With the search and rescue phase completed, relief efforts have turned to assessing the damage to the city and tragic loss of life.
As of 24th January, the death tolls stands at 112,250.
194,000 were injured, it is estimated that 1,000,000 people are living in temporary shelters and more than 235,000 people have taken the governments offer of free transportation to other regional centres.
There is a continuing and urgent need for clean water, ready-to-eat meals, temporary shelter and other relief items.

Stefan Radelich has been in Haiti for several days but communications are spotty and inconsistent. Stefan is posting irregular updates via his blog and twitter.
"Received a txt from Joe K. yesterday... Suzie contacted him that the children's home in Cazeau had to be evacuated; walls had fallen down, supplies had run out, and the already bad neighbourhood was getting worse. Way worse. Bands of guys roaming the streets with machetes, looking & looting worse.
Courageously they transported 150 or so kids, most with mental & physical disabilities one hour north of the city to a new facility that is in the process of being finished. Not finished yet, but an oasis away from the chaos and concerns of the capital..."

UPDATE 4:37pm: All operations have been restored.
"Reports on the extent of the devastation in Haiti are still coming in.. each seemingly worse than the last."
- UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon
More than 72 hours after the disaster officials still do not have a clear understanding of the number of missing people, homes destroyed or the totality of the tragic loss of life.
The current conservative estimate of number killed is 50,000 although it is expected to climb to 100,000. Some media outlets are speculating that the loss of life could reach 200,000 people.
No matter the final tally, it is clear that Haiti, one of the world's poorest nation's, will not recover from this tragedy without help.
Feed The Hungry has been established on the principle of Church to Church, Pastor to Pastor, Person to Person operations. All food and relief items will be distributed through local churches and Christian ministries.
A strategy that ensures that food is given to those who need it most. Christian partnerships that allow the gospel to be shared by acts of kindness and compassion.

"We have spoken numerous times to our ministry partners, please pray for them and the other survivors of this terrible earthquake. The trauma & anxiety is palpable in their voice...
"I will arrive in Haiti with Lamar Austin by Monday 18th. Flying into the Dominican Republic and driving across the border...
"We will use a a "Love-a-Child" compound in Fond Parisien as a staging warehouse. This facility is safe and secure and will receive all our bulk shipments as part of phase two relief operations out of US headquarters...
"We will load up our transports with as much water, medicine, blankets, temporary shelters, candles and personal hygiene products as we streamline the distribution process through our ministry partners in Port-au-Prince (PaP).
"Mercy & Sharing will serve as primary distribution partner once facilities, equipment and personnel have been confirmed...
"Once distribution channels are opened we will move product from Fond Parisien warehouse to distribution points for distribution through partner churches...
"As Phase 2 begins, 5 truckloads of supplies are being staged in Miami. Each truckload will carry approximately 20-22 tons of relief supplies."

Stefan Radelich visited our ministry partners in 2009 and recorded these video blogs. The first video was recorded at the Abandoned Baby Unit at the public hospital in Port au Prince. The second video was recorded at Mercy & Grace's orphanage.
At the time of this web update, this is the latest information.
"Madame Chenet, one of the workers in Haiti, reported that the orphanage, school, and three-story medical clinic were spared; but she could not report on Mercy & Sharing’s Abandoned Baby Unit… which is housed at the General Hospital in Port au Prince.
News reports have stated that the General Hospital collapsed, but those reports are yet to be confirmed. We can only hope that the children at the ABU were spared as well.
Feed The Hungry is in full response mode… we will send funds to purchase immediately needed items to help the survivors. Distribution will be through the hands of our partners, Mercy & Sharing, and possibly Good Samaritan Foundation"
