samoa tsunami - disaster relief

fth updates

FTH will work through Rhema South Pacific which has a bible college based in Apia on the other side of the island struck hardest by the Tsunami.

Staff members from the college are distributing water, clothes and other relief supplies as they assist response teams to search for survivors and bury casualties.

They have also prepared their dormitory facility to temporarily house the homeless.

Updates from the Field

"My name is Pattie Duininck. I am the president and founder of Rhema South Pacific. We are current working with various agencies to distribute food and would be happy to come along side you in the effort to help those families left hurting from the tsunami.

I have a 14 member staff and two trucks that can bring the supplies out to the remote villages. We also have a dormitory facility that we can temporarily house 36 people that are homeless or aid workers. We can house them but would need assistance in feeding them and funds necessary for electricity and water as it is very expensive here in Samoa.

Kelly Duininck Ministries | Relief Partner Samoa - Feed The Hungry AustraliaWe are ready and in position to help.

The future is bright."

Fri 2/10/09 - 11.59am

We are able to purchase supplies locally and we have a large truck that can deliver over to the other side. We are in the main town area where all the shops are.

We will travell to effected areas and deliver food - this would be the best for us and for the people as well. If we do have people on campus it would be for a very limited time (2 weeks max), most of the homeless are not wanting to go that far form their villages.
It is about a 1 1/2 - 2 hour drive.

Destruction | Samoa Disaster Relief - Feed The Hungry Australia

We are not able to internationally email out of Samoa at this time.
The quake damaged the fiber optic line. My staff took photos today but cant send yet.

I have attached some photos of the damage in the area. I know exactly what you are after and we will start to document for you to build a beautiful sight for your partners to see. They delivered food and supplies out in Lalomanu one of the hardest hit areas.
The people are so thankful.

The relief effort really started to roll today as things got more organized. Yesterday was devoted to locating and burying the dead. Many elderly and young children/babies. 10 more were found dead today which brings the count up to 126 on our island.

Thursday 1/10/09

A new day has dawned in Samoa as we organized to bring more humanitarian aid over to the other side of the island.

Four members of my staff loaded up one hour ago to bring help and hope to the people there. They are bringing water, clothes and much needed man power/ transportation to doctors who need to get in.
They will be searching for survivors and helping to bury casualties.

Please pray for these man specifically today:- Arthur Mulitalo, Johnny Nielsen, Talavou Kirisome, Sonny Ah Koi.

Since so many are still asking, I pray you will allow me to offer this information in this update once again.

We have immediate need of finances to buy food, clothes, shelter, run vehicles and provide man power.

Please feel free to forward this email to those who have been asking you how to help as well.

I want to personally thank you for sharing the love of God with our people, the people of SAMOA.

Together we are reaching the uttermost parts of the earth.

Wed 30/9/09

The situation on the island is grave in the south east portion of Upolu. Today 110 confirmed dead, 146 critically wounded, many are still missing. Damage of 40 million USD.

We have offered all the assets of the ministry to the government for help in the efforts. The dormitories, our vehicles, ship and man power. The greatest needs right now are food water clothes transportation and man power. We will continue to make and deliver water with our water purification system. Use our vehicles and send our men over.

Staff member Arthur Mulitalo took water, clothes, and a load of overseas doctors to the hardest hit area today. They recovered / helped bury 26 bodies. All my men will do the same tomorrow.

Please pray for them. They are having to bury the dead immediately upon identification.

They continue to be a beacon of light and hope to all they meet and have been ministering to the families.

I have been on my knees 3 time in the last day overwhelmed with thanks that my children and staff are unharmed.

Now we can minister to those who are in need...

the goodness of God.

Dear FAMILY

We are all well! The children, staff, school, ministry and ship have not been harmed by the Earthquake and tsunami following. Thank you for your prayers.

Our hearts go out to all who have lost loved ones in the tsunami. Truly, all those who have gone to be with the Lord are with the one we spend our whole life waiting to see face to face.

There is no greater moment for man. May God comfort all of us here as we continue to serve Him in this realm until we see them again.
